CitedAnswers is operated by Utupoto Technology Pty Ltd. We are the data controller for personal information collected through this Service. Contact us at support@citedanswers.com.
2. Information We Collect
Anonymous visitors: a random visitor identifier stored in a cookie, used only to count free questions asked and enforce the free-tier limit. No personal information is required to ask your first 5 questions.
Registered accounts: name and email address (via Firebase Authentication). Billing information: payment details are processed and stored by Stripe — we never see or store your full card number. Contact form: name, email, and message if you contact us via our Contact page. Usage data: the number of questions asked per month, and which knowledge base each question was asked against, so we can enforce plan limits and improve the Service.
My Documents: if you use the My Documents feature, we store the files you upload (or import from Google Drive or Dropbox) and their extracted content, so we can index them and answer your questions against them. These documents are private to your account — we do not share them with, or make them visible to, any other user.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to: (a) provide and operate the Service, including enforcing free/paid question limits; (b) process subscription payments; (c) send account and billing-related emails; (d) respond to support requests; and (e) detect and prevent abuse.
4. We Do Not Sell Your Data
We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties. We do not use your questions to train third-party AI models beyond what is necessary to generate your answer via our AI provider (Google Gemini).
5. Third-Party Services
We rely on the following processors: Google Firebase (authentication and hosting), Google Cloud Platform (data storage and AI processing via Gemini), Stripe (payment processing), Google reCAPTCHA (bot protection on our Contact form), and Postmark (delivering emails you send us via the Contact form). Each is bound by its own privacy and data-processing terms.
If you choose to import a document from Google Drive or Dropbox, you authorize access to that specific file directly with Google or Dropbox via their own sign-in prompt — we only ever receive the file you select, and gain no broader access to your Google Drive or Dropbox account.
6. Data Retention
Anonymous visitor question counts are retained only as long as needed to enforce the free-tier limit. Account data is retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward for legal and accounting purposes. Documents you upload to My Documents, and their indexed content, are retained until you delete them or close your account. You may request deletion of your account at any time by emailing us.
7. Cookies
We use one essential cookie to identify anonymous visitors for free-question quota enforcement. This cookie does not track you across other websites and is not used for advertising.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or object to certain processing. Contact support@citedanswers.com to exercise these rights.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
